The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday, May 20, announced the squad for the first two ODIs against Sri Lanka. Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has made a comeback into the side after missing out the flight to New Zealand earlier this year due to an injury.
Batsmen Nazmul Hossain, Mohammad Naim and pacer Al-Amin Hossain have been excluded from the squad that traveled to New Zealand. “We felt we don’t need too many players for a home series. This is why some players have been rested. A few other players have been kept as stand-by. They would also remain in bio-bubble,” said chief selector Minhajul Abedin.
Apart from the 15-membered squad, four players Naim Sheikh, Taijul Islam, Shodidul Islam, Aminul Islam Biplob have been names as standby players. Along with Shakib, the hopes of all Bangladesh fans will lie upon Mustafizur, who was quite effective with the ball during the recently suspended IPL 2021 for Rajasthan Royals and also was a regular feature for the franchise.
Sri Lanka appoint new captain; Leaves out Karunaratne and Chandimal
On the other hand, Sri Lanka had announced a 18-member squad and three experienced players including former skipper Dimuth Karunaratne, Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal were left out for some new names. Kusal Perera has been appointed as the new skipper and Kusal Mendis will be his deputy on the tour.
The tour consists of three ODIs, which will be played in the same stadium – Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on May 23, May 25, and May 28. All three ODIs are a part of ICC’s ODI championship.
