The fifth match of Under 19 World Cup was between India and Ireland on January 28 at Shree Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. In the Group D match, India restricted Ireland on the chase to clinch a victory of 79 runs. A debutant who participated in the ODI match from Indian side was Arman Jaffer, the middle order batsmen.
The Indian inning had a turbulent start with opening batsman Ishan Kishan mowed down on a duck in the first over. While there was little contribution from RR Pant, the next batsman who scored only 6 runs off 22 deliveries. However, the inning took stride as RK Bhui came to partner with Pant. Their partnership of 46 runs was a good start to build a strong score. SN Kahn the fourth batsmen who came after the fall of Bhui smashed the highest run of 74 playing fast in 70 deliveries. His partnership with Washington Sunder of 110 runs was the toughest slant for Irish under 19s. Sunder scored 62 runs.
The Indian Team racked up 268 runs for Ireland with a desirable run rate of 5.36. J Little and R Anders who bowled ten overs individually bagged three wickets each, while the latter maintaining a good economy compared to others. The rest of the bowlers were expensive pouring down runs into Indian devils with the bat. T Stanton's 9 overs and 50 runs was one of the most expensive streak of the match.
In the next inning, Indian bowlers did perform a furious stint. It was a tough start for the chasing team while the opener batsmen were returned to the crease with no substantial contribution. Both J Tector and S Doheny were run out with just 1 and 4 runs. Even if L Tucker and W McClinctock both had fifties scoring 57 and 58 runs respectively, none other could add more to the chasing tally. The lower order batsmen fell like a house of cards while India's bowler restricted the team's chase to 189 runs.
Rahul Bantam, the medium pace bowler emerged as the most destructive player in the second inning to halt three wickets from striking more. He bowled 8 overs posing an economy of 1.87 while Irish players could only scratch out 15 runs of him. Avesh Khan took down 2 wickets giving out a little more than Rahul to the hands of Ireland batsmen.
The foundation of a humongous score to Irish Team was Sarfaraj Khan's strike that earned him Match of the Match title. However, the batsman still seems to be unsatisfied with his own performance as he wanted a faster spurt. Indian bowler's also had a strong contribution to the victory becoming tough points for the Irish little masters. Especially bowlers in the creation will be crucial for India against the backdrop of a weak bowling front of the senior Team, which is on spotlight lately.
