Marvan Atapattu is a former batsman and a strong skipper of Sri Lankan Cricket team. His initial period of career was quite disappointing for his fans as when he was making his debut in Test cricket for Sri Lanka, he scored a duck in both the innings due to which he was dropped from the team. So he went back for more grinding. Later he got second chance after twenty-one months. He tried harder but again scored zero in the first innings and only one run in the second as a result he was dropped again.
He scored tonnes of runs in Domestic cricket but these runs seemed inadequate to erase the painful memories of the Test failures. He got his third opportunity after seventeen months and batted in both the innings of the Test but scored nil.
Marvan dint loose hope and kept trying. After three years later, he got another chance. This time, he came back with a bang and managed to score Sixteen centuries and Six double centuries. He has successfully scored centuries against all Test-playing nations. He finished his long successful career with 90 Test matches scoring 5502 runs for Sri Lanka. He served as the captain of the Sri Lankan team for four years.
How many of us can handle failure like he did? He must have thought of an alternate career, even he is a qualified chartered accountant but rather than switching he kept trying with his staunch faith and that’s made the difference.
Marvan Atapatu has proved, there is nothing called failure if you are dedicated enough.
“As the only time you fail is when you fall down and stay down”.
