One can get the illusion of being in the Pink City Jaipur as soon as you reach around the historic Eden Gardens. Not only Eden but the entire metropolis has been painted pink before the day-night match between India and Bangladesh to be played from Friday. As soon as the sun sets, within and outside Eden, pink is seen everywhere. There is a lot of enthusiasm among cricket fans here as the country's first day and night match is held in Kolkata. Most of the match tickets are already sold out. Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is confident of staying houseful for five days.
Preparations for this match are almost complete. On the first day of this match Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be present. Apart from these, veteran cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble and VVS Laxman will also be present.
Players like six-time world champion boxer Mary Kom and Olympic gold medalist shooter Abhinav Bindra will be honoured at a ceremony in the evening. A special event will be held on the third day of the match to commemorate the historic victory against Australia at this ground in March 2001. Many players in the team of that time have been invited to share their experiences.
This test will start at 1 pm. Floodlights will be lit at 3.40 pm after lunch, when the match starts. After the tea break, the last session will run from six to eight in the evening. The CAB has said in a tweet that during the first four days of the first day-night match played with a pink ball in Eden, more than 50,000 people will be present on the field every day. All tickets have already been sold. These include 17 thousand tickets sold online.
