Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation at 10 am on Tuesday. Today was the last day of the 21-day lockdown caused by the Corona virus. Meanwhile, once again PM Modi addressed the country and extended the lockdown period. With this, it has been decided that the 13th season of the Indian Premier League i.e. IPL will also be postponed.
PM Modi has now done a lockdown of 19 days which will remain in force till 3 May. Due to this, the decision to postpone IPL 2020, which was postponed till April 15, will now have to be taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The BCCI may make a big announcement about IPL on Wednesday 15 April, if not today, when the league will be suspended.
Significantly, the 13th season of IPL was to begin on March 29, but it was postponed to April 15 due to Corona virus. The BCCI was waiting for what Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced and what the new guidelines say on 15 April. However, it is now clear that IPL 2020 will not start at least before May 3, which the BCCI will have to come forward to officially announce.
The future of IPL 2020 now hangs in the balance, as the league will not start in the month of May, as the situation is not likely to be better than the corona virus by then. PM Modi has also said that if matters come up after May 3, then it will be very difficult. BCCI has time from June to December to conduct IPL this year, but the international calendar will be affected. In such a situation, the future of this league is in trouble this year.
