Nepal to play maiden ODI against Netherland in August
Sandeep Lamichhane debuted IPL as the first player from team Nepal in 2018.

In a strong breakthrough for Nepal, the team will play its maiden ODI series against Netherlands in August. The matches are scheduled on August 1 and August 3 in Netherlands. The team received ODI status lately becoming the eighth international team. The World Cup Qualifier match in Zimbabwe was the gateway for the team, making them break the barrier ahead of teams like Hong Kong and Papua New Guinea.

Meanwhile, Netherlands received ODI status before, but it lost the status back in 2014 World Cup Qualifier in New Zealand. The team regained ODI honor again in 2017, after become the champions in the latest WCL championship. The match against Nepal will be their first ODI after regaining the status. Per Ryan Campbell, the coach, the two-match series will be a fantastic event. He stated that it will be another opportunity to expose the young team to top quality cricket. The coach commented that he is excited to keep watching their development.

The matches will be played at Voorburg CC near Hague and VRA ground in Amsterdam. Before the ODI series, the teams will face off in London for a T20 match at Lord’s. The match is scheduled on July 29. Ahead of the match, the two teams will also combine to play against MCC squad. The latter will be headed by Mahela Jayawardene. Earlier, there was also a plan for an ODI series between Nepal and Scotland. However, Scotland was unable to host Nepal.

Team Nepal was granted T20 International status in 2014. It lost the status in 2015 T20 World Cup Qualifier. It regained the status again in 2018 Qualifier. Lately, team received ODI status on March 15, 2018. Although Nepal kept on participating international matches since 1996, it could not emerge as the notable international team. In IPL 2018, fast bowler Sandeep Lamichhane debut the tournament as the first cricketer from Nepal. Unlike other emerging nations, Nepal team comprises of only indigenous players.
