Sunil Narine scored the fastest fifty in IPL. In the latest match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore, in his knock of 17 ball 54, the player reached 59 in 15 balls. Adding up as a batsman in the match, Narine proved his competence as an allrounder apart from bowling. In the previous inning, hew also took two Bangalore wickets. His stance as an opener was an immense success, as he brought up 105 runs along with Chris Lynn in the powerplay over. On the other side, Chris Lynn scored 50 off 22 balls. The powerplay stretch came up as the record best in IPL.
The opening partnership in the chase rendered the target of 159 an easy approach for Kolkata. It took eight overs for the rest of the players to chase down the remaining runs. Narine and Lynn were removed in consecutive overs. Kolkata won the match batting 15.1 overs by 6 wickets. The other two batsmen, who were dismissed are skipper Gautam Gambhir and Colin de Grandhomme.
In contrast, the top batsmen in Bangalore squad could not shine in this match as well. Gayle was removed with a golden duck. It was his 100th IPL match. Mandeep Singh and Travis Head scored half centuries hauling the score to a decent figure. Mandeep Singh scored 52 off 43 balls and Head remained unbeaten with 47-ball-75. It was the maiden fifty for Head. It was his enterprise that brought 43 runs in the last three overs for Bangalore.
Like batsmen, Bangalore bowlers too could not keep the defense intact. The chase started with Narine taking the deliveries to boundary. In the powerplay, the openers hammered 19 boundaries, which was far more better than Challengers 17, in 20 overs in the previous inning. There was rain in the middle of the inning, but it had no impact on the players. With Lynn and Narine and Kolkata found a new winning combination.
