In a Momentum One Day Cup match the Lions were defeated by Knights defending a target of 312. There were huge knocks from Rassie van der Dussen and Dwaine Pretorius in the chase, but the Lions exhausted before 5 runs as the inning ended. Opener van der Dussen plundered 102 off 138 balls, while Dwaine Pretorius scaled 102 off just 79 balls.
On the other hand, in the previous inning, David Miller smashed 123 off only 86 balls. His knock hauled Knights’ target to a challenging figure. There were strong partnerships in the top batting line up. Keegan Petersen scored 75 in a flash hammering five fours and a six in a short stretch. Miller helped to cross the 300 mark with his quick century. Lions bowlers came out as expensive bets in the inning.
In chase, the equation to win reduced to 16 off six balls for Lions, which they could not score. The match was alive until the over as Willem Mulder knocked a six in the first ball, but in the rest, they could take only singles. Lions lost four top batsmen by the 23rd over. Pretorius joined in when the team required 210 runs off 167 with van der Dussen. Their partnership was stretched to 138 balls, where they added 144 runs. After van der Dussen was removed, Pretorius reached his century. The player could take the chase to the victory mark as he was down in the pre-ultimate over.
In another match, the Warriors were defeated by Titans in Benoni. Chris Morris and AB de Villiers were the lead players to nick the win. De Villiers remained unbeaten in the chase at 75 scaling the target before 131 balls. In the previous inning, the ingenious spells from Morris helped to restrict the Titans to a marginal score. The bowler knocked three wickets giving out 30 runs. The Warriors could score only 147 in the inning, which the other hauled in only 28.1 overs. With the victory, the Titans are now at the top of the point chart.
