A new entrant into Team India’s ongoing campaign in Sri Lanka is Axar Patel. The bowler is selected in the team for the Third and the final Test of the series. As confirmed by BCCI on August 9, Patel is induced to the team. The 23 years old cricketer has been with India A team. He was on the tour to South Africa for the A Team triangular series. The player will join the squad on August 9. He was in Pretoria for the triangular series.
Patel was in the international team during the Australian tour of 2015-15. It was also the time, when he played as the replacement of Jadeja. The latter injured his shoulder in the second Test, for which, he was dropped from the team.
So far, Patel has played 30 ODI and 7 T20I. He played with a strong form in the ongoing A tri-lateral picking a wicket for 47 runs. He bowled 40 overs. In the tournament, playing four matches, he claimed 7 wickets. He has not debuted Test. However, he is not selected in the top XI as Kuldeep Yadav was already picked as a replacement for Jadeja. Kuldeep had the Test cap in the match against Australia in Dharamshala.
In the SSC Test, Jadeja was convicted of breaching an ICC Code of Conduct. The player is suspended from a Test and hence, he will miss the third fixture at Pallekele. Beating this odd, Jadeja has also become the top Test bowler as well as allrounder in the format after an impressive game in the second Test. He took 7 wickets in the match and scored an unbeaten 70 in the only inning India batted. Jadeja has returned India and he will be back for the ODI series following the Test, if he is selected.
