As IPL intensifies, the top five teams are now coming up with tough fights to be on the top of the point chart. In the tournament, Kolkata Knight Riders is among the teams that has most of the prospects. It was only in the last fixture, the team had to face a defeat from Sunrisers Hyderabad, where David Warner plundered 126 off 59. Rising Pune Supergiant’s season has been average with wins and loss. However, the force they bounced back after the early woes in the tournament is exemplary. In the last match, they got the most of Ben Stokes, the most expensive player. Stokes’ maiden T20 ton was enough to scale up the victory with a one-man showdown.
In the previous tussle, Kolkata could not scale up their score to chase down a massive 210 from Hyderabad. Warner is the prime bet for Hyderabad when it comes to ravaging the bowling line up. Chris Lynn was seen practicing before the match in nets. It was the first time the player came out to practice after about three weeks. His presence is further expected to change the equations in the match.
On the other side, Pune did not practice returning from the last tussle to win against Gujarat Lions. Apart from the strong strike with the bat, Ben Stokes also did well with the ball. Other bowlers in the team, Dan Christian, Shardul Thakur and Jaydev Unadkat also delivered a strong attacking stance. Still, the best was from Imran Tahir, who has been the prime bet for the team to put a cap on run rate.
So far, Pune Supergiant has not yet won a single match against Kokata Knight Riders. In the previous fixture they met this IPL, the partnership of Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa was enough to topple Pune. The Knight Riders batsmen scored 158 runs together. For Pune, the squad they have now is the perfect combination as it was the one that worked well against Gujarat Lions. Meanwhile, Kolkata bowlers are certainly beginning to see Ben Stokes as a potential threat. Colin de Grandhomme’s plan is to take down Stokes early to stop big scores.
