Mumbai Indians has been stronger on Royal Challengers Bangalore, especially, at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium. At the stadium, the teams tussled at seven matches of which, six were won by Mumbai. Overall in IPL, Mumbai has won 8 out of 11 matches against Royal Challengers. This season, so far, RCB is on the sixth position. The team has lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI in previous fixtures. It is only Delhi Daredevils who were beaten by the team by 15 runs. Comparing with Mumbai Indians, they are a win below, as Mumbai has only lost once to Rising Pune Supergiant. The team has beaten both Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The arrival of Virat Kohli will bolster Royal Challengers substantially. AB de Villiers has already made his presence impactful hammering a 46 ball 89 in the campaign against Kings XI. The duo, along with Lokesh Rahul could have make RCB among strongest teams in IPL in terms of batsmen. Chris Gayle has been with the team, but replacing him with de Villiers brought better result for the team. Kohli also indicated that Gayle could be brought back to the circuit. The player might replace Vishnu Vinod. The skipper would also change the strategy to play. He wants to strengthen the bowling attacks with an insight to the chaser friendly-ness of Bangalore match.
For Mumbai Indians, absence of Ambati Rayadu has been a dig even if Lasith Malinga has arrived. Mitchell McClenaghan has been expensive for the team. The bowler could have only three wickets so far, giving out 129 runs in the current season. There is a possibility of the bowler being rested for Tim Southee. The stadium at Bangalore is small and favors the chasing team more. Scores less than 200 has always been chased down. However, Royal Challengers defended their score of 157 against Delhi Daredevils.
Mumbai has bowlers like Krunal Pandya and Malinga to bowl against batsmen like Kohli and AB de Villiers. Gayle, might come out as another trouble for the team. The batsman has amassed 771 runs off 574 balls so far in IPL. His strike rate is 134. Given the chance to bat in the next fixture, Gayle might reach the record tally of 10,000 IPL runs.
