Kings XI Punjab has revamped its squad with new players as well as new roles. Lokesh Rahul, Karun Nair, Mayank Agarwal, Mujeeb Zadran could bring out a better show down in the tournament this season of IPL 2018. Also, a fundamental change in the team is the new leadership of Ravichandran Ashwin. With the top bowler in the leadership position, the team has now its 11th captain in 11 seasons. Senior players like Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle are supposed to be the strong backups, while international players Aaron Finch, David Miller and Marcus Stoinis are the specialists in the lineup.
Kings XI made domestic players the prime bets in batting. Rahul and Mayank Agarwal might pose on top of the batting front. Aaron Finch, Gayle and David Miller would bolster the IPL team as second line. An ingenious formation combining domestic and international players would make the team stronger in batting. In bowling, R Ashwin is the spearhead. The captain would try his leg-break style as a new breakthrough. Afghan bowler Mujeeb Zadran will bolster the spin attack of the team. Also, the likes of Andrew Tye would act as a strong reinforcement in the front. With the ensemble, Kings XI seem to have a formidable bowling ensemble, with a slightly mismatches in batting for this season.
Kings XI is certainly up to a major overhaul to their strategy. The team let go most of its prime bets from the earlier season including the top ones like Hashim Amla, Glenn Maxwell and Eion Morgan. While they hold on to Axar Patel, they let Wriddhiman Saha to exit. With the formation, it is apparent that the XI is tilted over bowling ensemble. It might be also due to preference of Virender Sehwag to have a bowler as the captain.
In the previous IPL tournament Kings XI finished fifth. This season, they would look forward to at least to complete higher than that. The team has not seen a fruitful season so far in the tournament. Now leaving the squad on hands of Ashwin, the management is seeking a turn of fortune.
