In the most recent set back to Delhi Daredevils and the whole IPL franchisee, top South Africa player JP Duminy withdrew from the league. The player, as reported, informed the franchise about his decision on Monday, March 20. IPL is set to start after about 16 days and Delhi Daredevils will search for Duminy’s replacement as soon as possible. So far, the team has not yet reported any name as a replacement player. There are no reports on the reason of Duminy’s drop out from the tournament.
It seems the player would focus on domestic seasons in South Africa as the team is becoming more relevant across all formats. The player is seeking for his chances in the South Africa squad. The team has been busy lately with packed ODI, Test and T20 schedules. Before the Champions trophy, it will head out to England for an ODI series. After the Champions Trophy, the team will also play a T20 series and a test series. Duminy has been a primary player of Delhi Daredevil. He was also the captain of the team for a couple of matches. So far, he scored 1015 runs in 38 matches with a strike rate of 130.79. With the figures, he is the fifth-highest scorer for the team.
The Daredevils might also face another slog as all-rounder Angelo Mathews. The player was brought in with INR 2 Crores at the auction. The player was injured in the match against South Africa and has been on rest since January. The player was also rested on the tournament with Australia and Bangladesh. As IPL is set to begin soon, Mathews might not become fit for the tournament. Irfan Pathan, the captain, will lead the team. Other overseas players in Delhi Daredevils are Corey Anderson, Kagiso Rabada and Pat Cummings.
