India women team is through a good stretch of ODI victories. The team’s form is stronger winning four back to back ODI series. The team is boosted with good play from young cricketers. Players like Punam Raut and Deepti Sharma as well as Jhulan Goswami played record stances. While the former two forging the highest partnership in women cricket, Goswami emerged as the highest wicket taker in women ODI.
Meanwhile, skipper Mithali Raj is gaining confidence to play heavy in World Cup campaign. She is “very very happy” with the way the team has shaped up before the World Cup. Per the captain, being in form is important for any team preparing for World Cup and her team is developing good. Reminding earlier stances of the team, Raj said, winning a series was a struggle. He said, it was usual for India to lose a series with only one or two victories. But now the stance has changed and developed a lot.
India is winning series at international pitches away from home and it is a good accomplishment for the captain. Raj termed it as “positive and commendable.” Per the skipper, playing high quality cricket in a tournament like the World Cup is a good opportunity to promote cricket in the country as it will be telecast across the globe. Raj said, she “definitely want this World Cup to be a very significant one in terms of Women’s cricket team.”
Raj, however, is pragmatic and she knowns well about her team. She wants cautiousness from her players. She remined India has been upbeat earlier on start of any global ICC events, fading out ultimately, leading to exit without any subtle mark. She said, “the team should not peak early.” In T20 World Cup as well as in ODI Cup, India had strong start, but started to lose by the middle and never making a comeback. The captain is positive on the structure of World Cup tournament. As India would start the campaign against England, it would be imperative to play headstrong.
