India Women won the Quadrangular Series match against Ireland Women by a massive 249. Adding another feat to records of India Women, opener player Deepti Sharma and Poonam Raut delivered the highest partnership in women cricket ever, scoring 320 runs together. Batting first India scored 358 in the 50 over inning. Ireland tried every bowling option to bind the opening partnership.
The team tried out seven bowlers and every combination of attack. But all went futile against the strike from Sharma-Raut pair. The stretch also brought the first 300-run partnership in Women ODI. Sharma hammered 27 fours and 2 sixes to bring up the score of 188 off 160 balls, while, Poonam Raut scored 109 off 116 balls before retiring hurt. For Sharma, the score was second highest in the format. The highest is from Belinda Clark, the Aussie player, 229.
Deepti Sharma was recalled to the squad in absence of Smriti Mandhana, the regular opener. The player found her form in the previous World Cup Qualifier tournament in Sri Lanka. In the campaign, she finished as the highest scorer with 253 runs. In the ODI against Ireland, she remained at the crease for 45.3 overs, hauling the score to 320.
The final add-up to the figure was from Shikha Pandey, how scored 27 off 14 balls, plundering four boundaries. Undoubtedly, the Player of the Match was Deepti Sharma, who gained quite an accolade. Shanta Rangaswamy, former chairperson of BCCI Women selection panel said she has a “fabulous temperament” and has the capability to become one of the best allrounders in global cricket.
The Irish inning brought some runs in the beginning. But as the openers were contained, the chase almost halted. Batting for more than 16 overs, openers Mary Waldron and Leah Paul hauled it to 42. Waldron played 23 overs and a couple of balls to score 35. In the inning, Rajeshwari Gayakwad scalped 4 wickets, while Shikha Pandey swayed the middle order knocking off three players. All it took 40 overs for India Women to exhaust the batting line-up of Ireland. The team was 10 for 109 in 40 overs.
