In the first match of Women’s T20 Asia Cup, India Women beat Malaysia Women by a massive 142 runs. India Women scored 169 runs batting first, while the team slogged Malaysia Women in only 27 runs. Mithali Raj, India Women strikers plundered a 69 ball 97 runs in the Women T20 International match. She remained unbeaten in the match. In the chase, Malaysia women could only sustain for 13.4 overs, while scratching only 27 runs in stretch. P Vastrakar took 3 wickets, A Patil and Poonam Yadav had two wickets each, while Shikha Pandey had a single wicket.
The victory by 142-runs came up after the unbeaten score off Mithali Raj. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur struck 32 runs playing 23 balls. She plundered 4 fours while Deepti Sharma knocked 18 runs off 12 balls. Mithali Raj scored with a strike rate of 140.57, knocking 13 fours and a six. The inning had an 86-runs partnership between Kaur and Raj, who played 53 balls together. Still, India lost two wickets in 6.1 overs. Smriti Mandhana and P Vastrakar were done away as the early wickets of the inning.
In the chase, Malaysia women faced a rather tough bowling attack off India women. Within the power play overs, India bowlers ripped apart the top batting line-up of Malaysia. There was not a single player in the team to reach a double digit runs in the inning. In 13.4 overs India bowled, there were five maiden overs. Skipper WA Duraisingam played 21 balls, as the longest sustaining player for 5 runs. Sasha Azmi and Zumika Azmi played 10 and 15 balls respectively, as the other two players staying at the crease for some time.
There was a sheer display of bowling prowess in the chase. The bowlers emerged as more than just strong inflating Indonesia’s batting line-up completely. India bowler Pooja Vastrakar took 3 wickets for 6 runs, while Poonam Yadav bowled 2 maiden overs, but nicked two wickets. Former captain Mithali Raj was awarded Player of the Match.
