India is set for another round of test series of the year. Starting with the Sri Lanka tour, India will play back to back test series against South Africa, England, and Australia. Skipper Virat Kohli is upbeat reminding his first assignment as the captain. It was back in 2015, against Sri Lanka when India nicked the series by 2-1. India lost the first test of the series, but won in the two consecutive matches. Skipper Virat Kohli termed the Sri Lanka tour as a ‘landmark.’ Since winning the first matches under his captainship, India has not seen a series defeat until now. Currently, India is the top team in ICC Test Ranking.
Kohli said Team India has created a culture to win Test matches both at home and away from it. He said the they have created a mindset that try and win the series. He remembered the previous tour to Sri Lanka before a couple of years. It has been 24 months, as the captain said and it was the start of the “belief system” within the Indian team that it can win in international test series. For Kohli, the defeat in the first test was a shock.
The new team of coaches accompanies the Indian team. With Ravi Shastri as the head coach, the team now has three coaches for guidance. Per Shastri Bharat Arun has an impressive record of 15 years as a coach. He said, Arun’s record of accomplishment is ‘outstanding’. The head coach said, Arun knows about the players in the team more than he does. The coach selection was through a good tussle, starting with abrupt resignation of Kumble and ending with CAC’s war of words with the Committee of Administrators. Finally, it was Ravi Shastri, who nailed the tussle appointing his former teammates in their respective roles.
Virat Kohli, who is apparently the reason of Kumble’s resignation denied any “added pressure” off the situation. He said being criticized is nothing new. He said all that needs to be done is to take care of the mindset and move forward.
