India’s tussle with Sri Lanka is on its last leg. The team has been preparing with a strategy for the South Africa tournament that follows next, such that, even the tournament with Sri Lanka was a part of it. Selectors put forward names of players for South Africa tour getting the team all set for the campaign. However, ahead of the tour, former captain Sourav Ganguly posed a skeptic point to alert the team. He said, players are in good form this time, but it would not be easy to tackle South Africa. The former cricketer emphasized equally on batting and bowling. Per the player, batsmen would need to strike good runs so that bowlers can form a good attack.
In present times, India has the top bowling ensemble, even if its batting line up faces wobbles at times. The team had its eight consecutive ODI series win recently, winning the series against Sri Lanka. India will start the campaign in South Africa without practice tests. Per Ganguly, players like Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara and Murali Vijay has good experience in playing at South Africa. He said, the top India players has “good idea” of conditions in the country. The former captain added, the “best thing” is India cricketers are going back to South Africa as better players.
India will offer Test cap to bowler Jasprit Bumrah in the South Africa tournament. The team will campaign with a squad comprising seven batsmen, two wicket-keepers and an all-rounder in the tour. Bumrah had impressive performance in limited format cricket both within and outside the country. Another player included in the Test team is Parthiv Patel, the wicket-keeper. He played international Tests in 2016 against England. Patel also plays as a strong batsman at the middle order. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya is included in the Test squad. He was rested from the previous series with Sri Lanka as a reserve player for the upcoming tour.
India will play three Test matches against South Africa starting from January 5. The team will also play two two-days warm up matches starting from December 30. There will be six ODIs and three T20s after the Test series. Presently, India is the top Test team through a long stretch of consecutive victories.
