In the only test match of the single test series, which Bangladesh came to India after a lapse of 15 years, the visitors faced an intensified defeat of 208 runs. India, the team that registered their 19th international test victory consecutively, once again proved their bowling as well as batting might in the match. Captain Virat Kohli is on the way to become the best Test captain for the team hauling it to the top of test rankings with back to back series victories. India took the pitch ahead of Bangladesh as the skipper viewed it as batsmen friendly. The team scored 687 runs in the first inning. In the stretch, there were one double century by Kohli and a century one each from M Vijay and Wriddhiman Saha .
In reply to India’s high score, Bangladesh chased to 388 in its first inning. Batsman Mushfiqur Rahim scored 127 to haul the team into a decent score. In the inning, R Ashwin took two wickets, which made him reach a record milestone. He became the fastest bowler to nick 250 wickets in 45 matches. The player broke Denis Lillee’s record of same figures in 48 matches. In the inning, Umesh Yadav took three wickets and R Jadeja had another couple of wickets. Being exhausted, Bangladesh had to make way for India’s second inning. India added 159 to its previous score making the match harder for Bangladesh. Cheteshwar Pujara scored an unbeaten half century in the inning.
Bangladesh took on the pitch on the last session of the fourth day and played until the fifth. The team was chasing a massive score of 459. In the stretch, all they could score was 250 runs trailing India by about 208 runs until the batting line up exhausted. India bowlers attacked heavily with eight wickets shared equally by Ashwin and Jadeja. The highest scorer in the stretch was Mahmudullah, who put up 64 in the inning. In the last day, India faced a moderate attempt by Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah, but it was just not enough to build any pressure on India.
In the next campaign, India will play against Australia in a five match test series. Currently, Australia is preparing tough for the tour with most of its players undergoing strenuous sessions in a Dubai Training camp. It would be exciting, how captain Virat Kohli will handle the visitors to keep the team’s victory march unstrained.
