India and West Indies ready for ODI and T20 series
Rohit Sharma is rested off the upcoming tour to West Indies.

Team India’s next assignment is the West Indies tour. The squad will move direct from England to West Indies for the limited overs and T20 series. The team that had to back off from the Champions Campaign after fighting Pakistan in the final wants to make some change in the formation. Per Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma will need some monitoring on fitness. The captain wants to rest the opener off the West Indies tour.

Rohit Sharma was in the Champions trophy campaign after a hip surgery. Kohli said, the IPL season has been hectic for Sharma after the semifinal match against Bangladesh. Mumbai Indians were the winner in the recent IPL season. Rohit Sharma was the captain and the top scorer of the team. This for the upcoming West Indies tour Rohit Sharma is dropped from the squad.

Virat Kohli said the decision to give Rohit a break is conscious and he is sure the player “knows and understands the whole situation.” The last time Sharma played an ODI was almost before nine months. He could not play the home series against England, Australia, and Bangladesh. But he came back strong in IPL, winning the tournament. In Champions Trophy, he came up as the second highest scorer with 304 runs including the unbeaten century against Bangladesh in the semifinal. India will play five ODI and a T20 match against West Indies.

Meanwhile, West Indies seems well prepared for the faceoff. West Indies will play the first two ODIs with the same squad they played against Afghanistan recently. The team levels the three -match series against Afghanistan by 1-1, the third match being washed out. Currently, West Indies is ninth in the ODI team ICC chart. To gain an automatic qualification to World Cup 2019, West Indies must play strong matches against India. The ODI series is crucial for West Indies. However, the team is without Shannon Gabriel, the fastest bowler the host have. The first ODI is on June 23, Friday, scheduled at Queen’s Park Oval.
