India and Pakistan played a bilateral series back in 2017. Rarity mixed with rivalry is warming up the venue.
It is known to all that archrivals India and Pakistan don’t not play cricket anymore. But it is also well known that number of audiences in any of their matches might be the larger than any other cricket match across the globe. Cricket, all together, has not stopped between the nations. BCCI is directed only to oppose bilateral matches. They cannot be that antagonistic not to play with Pakistan even in global tournaments. Now, after quite a long wait, India and Pakistan is again ready to tussle in the ongoing Asia Cup 2018 tournament. The first schedule between the two is on 19 September 2018 in Dubai. And this is going to be quite hot!
India is getting ready without the front-man. Virat Kohli, captain of the team, is on rest after the so-called hectic tour of England. Skepticisms are always high when the captain is absent and that too, from a crucial match. Still, former captain Saurav Ganguly thinks that Kohli’s absence won’t be a factor in the match. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Wasim Akram believes that Kohli’s absence would be a great psychological boost for Pakistan. Virat Kohli scored a massive 593 in the recently concluded Test series against England. He is unquestionably high on his form at present.
India Captain Virat Kohli is rested from the match following the hectic Test series against England.
In absence of Kohli, Rohit Sharma is getting ready to lead the team against Pakistan. Arguably, he was not even in the Test team to England. The last matches he played was only the T20s in IPL. His team Mumbai Indians is a champion, but they didn’t nick the trophy this time. India and Pakistan played their last match together in Champions Trophy 2017 final. Although a global champion, India had to pay the price of not playing cricket often with Pakistan. The loss by more than 150 runs was a grand defeat for India losing the Champions Trophy to the archrivals. Pakistan, definitely has created a stronger base in the years of isolation from International cricket.
India has been the most successful team in Asia Cup Tournaments so far. The squad won the title for six times so far, while Pakistan bagged it twice. The upcoming match is a crux of tussles between the team because, it has several factors apart from the day’s play affecting it. The rarity of matches between India and Pakistan; absence of the best shot in team India, Virat Kohli; Pakistan defeating India in an appalling way in the Champions Trophy and so on; has rendered the an important one.
So far, Pakistan marked 21 more victories than India in ODI matches between the two.
Until now, India and Pakistan played 129 ODIs since their first meeting in October of 1978. Pakistan has been always ahead of India in terms of victories. The team won 73 ODIs compared to 52 by India. In ODI Asia Cup tournament, the teams played 11 matches, of which, India won 6 and Pakistan won 4. A single match was draw. The last bilateral series they played was the Test series in 2007-08. India hosted Pakistan in November for the 3-match series. India won the game winning a single match and drawing two.
In the upcoming match, India’s top bets are Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav and Manish Pandey. Sharma is considered mentally fresh to lead the game for he was not in the recent failed Test-campaign against England. The opener is known for his strong tactics specially against Pakistan. He has good experience of handling the team as well.
MS Dhoni’s performance in the tournament will be his parameter for the ODI world Cup 2019.
MS Dhoni, batting in middle order has been always the key player in the team. Known as the best finisher in recent times, this tournament is also an evaluating game for the player. He is set to roll out until 2019 ODI World Cup. This makes performing strong in Asia Cup a crucial parameter for the 37 years old former captain. Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav is expected to shoot against batsmen in the match. They will spearhead the bowling attack along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal.
Cricket rivalry between India and Pakistan is understood as one of the most extreme and intensified sports rivalries in the world. Political tension between the countries have made winning against each other much important for the both the teams. The losing side has to bear the wrath from public who display anger by breaking TV sets in Public to setting riots in both the countries. Such is the craze of cricket between the teams that during 2015 World Cup in Australia, tickets of matches between India and Pakistan were sold out in 12 minutes!
