Hashim Amla, the International Cricketer from South Africa, is regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of the world. He has several accolades into his name as the highest individual Test scorer of South Africa, the fastest cricketer to reach 2,000 ODI runs, the first South Africa to hit a triple century as so on. Apart from playing all the three formats for South Africa, he is associated with several other league cricket like CPL, IPL as well as County cricket. He is among those players in the game who has integrated it strongly with the moniker of being a ‘Gentlemen’s Game’. His calm nature is best known along with his classy attitude while at play. He was also the vice-captain and captain of his team across the formats. He is the first Indian origin cricketer to represent South Africa.
Amla has Indian origin, his grandparents being from Gujarat of India. Born on 31 March 1983, Hashim Amla’s age is now 35. He started formal education in Durban along with early cricket training. Since his childhood, he had a strong devotion towards study and cricket. Apart from this, religion played a major role in his life. Being from a Muslim family, Amla has been practicing strict Islam. He graduated from Durban High School, while setting of his domestic career during high school days. In his early years as a young cricketer, he had training under Hylton Ackermann, the former captain of Western Province and an influential coach. Surprisingly, he was cited as a future captain of team South Africa since his first-class years.

Hashim Amla’s father is Muhammad H. Amla. His elder brother, Ahmed Amla is also a cricketer, who debuted before him. His family is strongly influenced by religion and they follow Islam strictly. His devotion towards religion was since early days. The player does not wear logos promoting alcohol brands and merchandize. His strict behavior is also a reason of attraction. Hashim Amla’s wife, Sumaiyah also follows strict Islam. She is seen in complete burqa even while watching her husband play. In current international cricket, Amla is the only player with full beard.
On pitch, Amla is known for his impressive concentration and batting skills. In his early days, he had questionable techniques, but it gradually became his signature style after playing successfully in several winning matches. Today, Amla is considered as a player who has one of the finest stroke plays. He also plays with classy wrist work. His shot off back foot shooting a delivery standing tall is one of his most famous actions on pitch. Although graded and calm at play, ha also has a great aggression in times of need transforming completely as a power hitter.
Amla’s entry into professional cricket was during high school days. He played first for Dolphins starting his domestic career. His impressive performance paved the way for him to become the captain of U19 South Africa team for World Cup 2002. In the tournament, South Africa came out as the first runners up. He became the captain of Dolphins at the age of 21. In 2013, he moved to Cape Cobras. He was chosen in South Africa A team for the winters tour in 2004.
Amla was cited as the future captain of South Africa since his U19 days
His first international Test debut with the South Africa team was in November 2004. The match was against India at Eden Gardens. He played test for 4 years before debuting in the other two formats. In his early years, the player could thump goo runs. Latter in 2006, Amla came back with a strong strike in the match against New Zealand. He scored 149 runs in the home Test match. This was his first big knock and the player did not look back since. He scored several centuries in the format scoring 1599 runs by his 20th Test. In 2008, he scored several centuries in the format, finally debuting in ODI and T20. The batsman debuted ODI against Bangladesh in March 2008. In August 2008, he debuted T20I against England.
In June 2011, he was named the vice-captain of the ODI and T20I Team. He became the top Test batsman wreaking up a triple century against England, playing 13 hours and 10 minutes continuously. In 2014, he played his first Test as the captain against Sri Lanka. He is the first non-white captain of South Africa. He stepped down as the captain in January 2016. In IPL, he has been playing for Kings XI Punjab.

He is also the fastest batsman along with Virat Kohli to knock 50 centuries in 348 innings. He won Man of the Man and Man of the Series award for several times until now. Although, active in social media, he is not known to make comments on subjects that does not concern him. Hashim Amla’s Twitter is the only social page, he does not own a Facebook account.
