Haque and Rahim building up high first inning score for Bangladesh
Mominul Haque knocked a 96-ball-100 in the day before tea break.

The ongoing Test match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka is the first campaign for the former after a gap of almost four months in the format. The last time team Bangladesh was seen on white was back in 2017 October, when they played against South Africa. In the fixture, the team faced an embarrassing defeat. This time, Bangladesh is with a heavy ensemble against Sri Lanka, especially in bowling. The selectors focused on the condition at Chittagong as they picked six spinners in the squad of 16 members. Also, the strategy must be to repair the absence of Shakib Al Hasan.

Winning the toss at Chittagong, Bangladesh decided to bat first. It went absolutely in support of the team as they were able to pull up a strong score with good partnership innings. The opening pair Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes put up 72 runs together in a partnership of more than 15 overs. Iqbal scored a 53-ball-52 in the stretch. The next stretch was the partnership inning between Kayes and Mominul Haque pulling the inning to more than 10 overs. When Kayes was dismissed in 27.4 overs, Bangladesh was at 126.

By tea break, Haque was partnering with Mushfiqur Rahim while the inning reached 250 runs in 54.6 overs. Before the break, Haque thumped his Test century off 96 balls in an incredible form. As the game resumed after tea break, by 67 overs, Haque reached 127 runs with Mushfiqur Rahim striking 59. Rahim knocked his half-century just after the tea break.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is through a pressure as its bowler remains unsuccessful to contain both the run rate as well as the wickets. A total of six bowlers have delivered in the day so far while, the attack could nick only two early wickets. Iqbal was dismissed by Theresa Perara, while Lakshan Sandakan attacked Kayes.
