Gujarat Lions has failed to break though in this current season, which is their second IPL appearance. They started weak, winning a single match out of first five matches. So far, the team has won only three matches, the latest one against Mumbai Indians. In the last match, Gujarat scored 154, successfully defending it against Mumbai.

It was the bowlers who emerged as pivotal bets in the team to win the match, especially James Faulkner and Basil Thampi. The match ended with Super overs after being tied, where the bowlers emerged dominant. Moreover, Pune, on its last fixture, toppled Bangalore beating them by 61 runs. The chief attacker was Lockie Ferguson, who removed 2 wickets for 7 runs bowling an impressive four overs. Pune seems to have found out a formidable combination of bowlers with the likes of Imran Tahir, Ben Stokes and lately, Ferguson. Imran Tahir is the bowler with highest number of scalps this season.

For Pune, the even the last season was dismaying. However, his time, the team is fourth on the point table. Currently, the team is placed behind Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. The team is just four points away to the top and they are strong contenders to it. On the other hand, Gujarat must fight strong to keep up their stance in this season. The team must win at-least a couple of matches in be alive on the series.

Pune players are confident and so are Gujarat’s. Ferguson, the top bowler, pointed out the prowess of young players in the team apart from senior players. He said players like “Tripathi and Tiwary are exciting” He said the priority of the team is to get runs on board first and they have already achieved it well so far. As bowlers, they work on simple plans and they have worked hard to accomplish them.
