Delhi Daredevils and Gujarat Lions meeting head on at Kanpur has much significance for both. It is the third last match for Daredevils and the second last for Lions. Daredevils could not get up as one among the top fours, losing to Mumbai Indians in their last fixture. Prior to the match, they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Lions. The team could not pace up its bowling attacks even if they had the best on the line of Zaheer Khan himself, Pat Cummings, Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Shami and Chris Morris. Excluding Morris, none of the bowlers could do well in the campaign so far.
Gujarat Lions is reeling in the bottom half of the chart. The team, however, found victories. Even without players like Brendon McCullum, they emerged strong. Dwayne Smith, the substitute, played as a comeback for the team. In the match against Delhi, they are most likely to play with only three overseas players. The pitch at Kanpur is green and Gujarat supposedly has better advantage to it.
So far, Delhi came up stronger against Gujarat winning two matches out of three. In the last two matches, Delhi won by eight and seven wickets. Delhi will be playing without Chris Morris and Kagiso Rabada. The players are off to their national duties. Also, Angelo Matthews and Sam Billings are back to their national teams. Still, the team has more options of foreign players than Gujarat Lions. Delhi bowler, Mohammed Shami is positive on the team’s prospect to win the next games they play.
It is the first match in Kanpur this IPL season. In the last international T20 between India and England, dew played a good role for bowlers in the evening inning. So far, the chasing side came up as the winners in all the last three T20 matches in the stadium. This matches with Lions, who won four off six matches while chasing. The team could not have better luck while batting first. They lost all of six matches while doing so.
