The Ranji Trophy hits the knockout stage with four teams. Karnataka, Mumbai, Bengal, and Gujrat entered the quarter final of the Class A tournament.
Gujarat is on the knockout stage with the highest point in the league phase. The team won five matches so far. The team featured players like Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel in its earlier seasons. At present, Piyush Chawla, Chintan Gaja and Siddharth Desai has been the top bets for Gujarat. In batting, the team has a strong prospect with Priyank Panchal. His tally so far is 538 at an average of 67.25.
Bengal has been through a roller coaster ride. Several players went away from the team on national duty including Mohammed Shami, Wriddhiman Saha, Ishan Porel, set to leave, and so on. It is needless to mention that their presence in the team pushed it through the league phase of the tournament. Still, Porel will be playing in the quarter-final. In bowling side, Ashok Dinda is on spotlight. In earlier matches, the bowler picked 48 wickets in the current season.
Mumbai came out racing against Andhra and Madhya Pradesh. Tamil Nadu and Baroda were also in the contest, finally making the way out for Mumbai. The final match against Tripura was an easy game bringing a bonus point. However, Shreyas Iyer will miss the quarter finals being siphoned to the national side. So far, another player, Siddhesh Lad has been delivering consistently. The team has a weak stance in bowling department, which might come out as a major blip.
Karnataka featured star players like Lokesh Rahul, Manish Pandey. But they only player a match or two in the season. The team is strong with players like Mayank Agarwal and R Samarth. While the bowling department is bolstered with players like Abhimanyu Mithun and K Gowtham. Also, Shreyas Gopal came with a strong form this season. The team is tightly packed with in-form players. The only shortcoming in their game has been fielding.
