Gautam Gambhir played the first Test in the current England-India five match series. The player had a comeback after years for an international test. However, his performance was poor being dismissed at less than 30 runs in the first inning and at zero in the second. Finally, he makes the way for Lokesh Rahul, the young player in the squad, who was out for injury issues. However, Gambhir previously delivered a strong performance in first class cricket. In fact, he was included in the international team after this challenging knock playing along with his domestic squad, Delhi. Now, the player is headed back to the Ranji games and set up his score in the domestic format.
Team Delhi will have the batsman was the opener. He is now released by the Indian Team Management. Meanwhile, he is selected by the Delhi and District Cricket Association selection committee. Gambhir is now included in the 16-member squad of Delhi team. The next match he will play is against Rajasthan at Krishnagiri Stadium. It is in Wayanad and is scheduled at November 21. According to a member of the Delhi selection panel, they had spoken to the player about the inclusion. In return, Gambhir expressed his interest to play the next round of the tournament. The member also emphasized that the player will get much time to practice.
As reported, the selector was even ready with other player from the domestic circuit, in case if Gambhir refused to accept their proposal. The player reserved for such a case was Himmat Singh. Several officials attended the selection meeting. Nikhil Chopra, Atul Wassan, and Robin Singh Junior were present in the selection. Apart from them, Coach of the Delhi team KP Bhaskar, Chand and Siddharth Sahib Singh were in the meeting. Singh was the Co-Convenor.
Another player, Ishant Sharma was also expected by the selection panel. However, he is not released by the BCCI for Ranji Trophy games. Sharma is presently with the 16 member India Test Squad playing with England. However, he is not playing the games as he is retained for the practice sessions. The bowler would not participate in the domestic tournament as he is a handy bet for the international team to rotate the pace options. His inclusion would allow the squad to retain freshness of bating as well as bowling in the long run. The present series with England consist of five test matches and will be followed by three ODIs and three T20s.
Unmukt Sharma, Delhi's captain has given a green signal to Gambhir allowing him to lead the team. The present Delhi team for the next round Ranji matches also has Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan is on the team to fulfill the condition laid by Coach Anil Kumble. Players out from the international team are to undergo a first-class match before re-inclusion. Dhawan will play the next Ranji match as a qualifier to the international squad.
