England’s Stuart Broad ended the dry run of wickets as he trapped Henry Nicholls, who was just about to accelerate. Broad was performing poorly from the last four innings and also went wicketless in few of them.
Skipper Joe Root also joined the bowler’s party as he sent Henry Nicholls packing on the Day 5 at Lord’s. New Zealand are currently batting for the second time in the match and their lead over England has just crossed the 250-run mark. England, on the other hand, are trying to bundle out New Zealand as quickly as possible in order to stand a chance of winning the match.
However, that seems unlikely as the pitch is offering uneven bounce so batting will be difficult as the day progresses. There are still more than 75 overs left in the day so New Zealand are looking to bat for at least 25 overs to set an unachievable target for England.
Earlier, Ollie Robinson started the day 5 with the wicket of nightwatchman Neil Wagner and then Stuart Broad joined the party as he trapped Tom Latham plumb in front. Ross Taylor then walked in and switched to ODI mode as he scored a 35-ball 33 before edging one straight to the keeper off Mark Wood.
Post that, Henry Nicholls took on Joe Root and showed aggression but Root got the better of him. While reverse sweeping, Nicholls got a top edge which carried to Rory Burns at lone slip, who took a good low catch.
