Peshawar Zalmi batsman Shoaib Malik accidentally hit his stumps while chasing a wide yorker from Haris Rauf. During the 17th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 between Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars in Abu Dhabi, the former were set a target of 171 in 20 overs. However, they fell short by just 10 runs, despite the fabulous batting effort from Shoaib Malik, who scored a 48-ball 73.
Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi skipper Wahab Riaz won the toss and elected to bowl first. His decision proved right as their bowlers were all over the Lahore batsmen as they took the first four wickets in just eight overs. Riaz, Irfan, Randhawa and U Asif sent Zaman, Sohail, Faizan and Hafeez packing, respectively.
Just when the Qalandars were looking hopeless, Ben Dunk and Tim David struck a match-turning 81-run partnership before the former was dismissed by Fabian Allen on 48. David then took the charge and scored a 36-ball 64 to take his team to a respectable score of 170.
In reply, Zalmi openers Kamran Akmal and Haider Ali were dismissed in the second over by James Faulkner, thus giving a poor start to the chase. Shoaib Malik held one end and kept rotating strike. However, Rashid Khan was at his absolute best as he picked the crucial wickets of David Miller, Rovman Powell and pinned the Zalmi batsmen further on backfoot.
He then dismissed Sherfane Rutherford and Fabian Allen in the same over (12th) and ended all the hopes of a successful run chase. Wahab Riaz and U Asif offered some resistance, but Rashid got the better of Wahab and completed his first five-wicket haul in franchise T20 cricket.
Shoaib, too, got out in an unfortunate manner, as he accidentally hit his stumps while chasing a wide yorker from Haris Rauf.
