Rishabh Pant departs and Kyle Jamieson bags his third. After hitting a four, Jamieson teases Pant by bowling one outside off and his bounce does the trick. Pant reaches out, wanting to drive and gets an outside edge, which carries to Tom Latham in the slips.
India’s skipper Virat Kohli was the first one to depart in the morning. It was the shuffle and the attempt to play the flick shot that got the better of Virat Kohli in ICC tournaments. Kohli failed to add more to his overnight score of 44. All Jamieson had to do was pitch the ball fuller and the pitch did the trick thereafter. The ball nipped in, beat the inside edge of Kohli’s willow and hit him right on the pad. The umpire raised his finger after a brief thought and he was right. Kohli did take the DRS, but the ball tracking showed three reds.
Earlier, Virat Kohli’s poor fortune with the toss continued as Kane Williamson won the toss and decided to field first. While India had announced their playing XI two days earlier, New Zealand announced it today, right at the toss. They went with an all-seam attack, leaving out Ajaz Patel. It meant Colin de Grandhomme played the role of the fifth bowler, after Boult, Southee, Wagner and Jamieson.
