Krunal Pandya, who was in scintillating form with his bat in the ODI series against England, was batting beautifully in the opening match against RCB. However, in the penultimate over, Kyle Jamieson, RCB's latest recruit, bowled a quick yorker and Krunal broke his bat while hitting a shot. Everyone was in splits after seeing the incident.
Earlier, Chris Lynn and South Africa’s 20-year-old Marco Jansen were handed Mumbai Indians cap, while Kyle Jamieson, Glenn Maxwell and Rajat Patidar made their debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Virat Kohli won the toss and chose to bowl first on a track, which has assisted the spinners in the past. Unfortunately, Devdutt Padikkal missed out due to health problems.
Mohammed Siraj opened the bowling and kept the length tight, conceding five runs. Kyle Jamieson joined him from the other end and got a flying start, giving away just one single on the first ball. Chris Lynn was seen struggling initially and the wicket was too tough.
RCB skipper Virat Kohli drew first blood and ran out Rohit Sharma. Lynn tucked this towards short cover and Rohit was too keen on the single, but Lynn stood in his crease and had no interest. Kohli took no time to throw the ball at the bowler's end and Rohit was miles short of the crease.
Suryakumar Yadav, who was the leading run-getter for Mumbai Indians in the previous season, began the rebuilding process with Chris Lynn and the duo smashed RCB bowler out of the park and were 86/1 at the halfway mark.
However, Kyle Jamieson stroke in the next over as Suryakumar Yadav fell for his extra bounce and edged one straight to the keeper. Hardik Pandya played some shots before he was trapped in front off a beautiful slower delivery from Harshal Patel. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan continued smashing bad balls and was even given a lifeline by Washington Sundar in the deep.
Harshal Patel then got rid of the explosive Hardik Pandya with a brilliant slow yorker, which the latter had no clue and then sent Ishan Kishan packing with another yorker.
