Australia’s emerging cricketer Chris Green picked up his maiden T20 five-wicket haul including a hat-trick off the last three balls of the innings against Kent Spitfires in the ongoing T20 Blast in England. However, his stunning bowling effort wasn’t enough for his team Middlesex as they lost the match by 16 runs.
Green took four wickets in the final over of Kent’s innings and finished the innings with 5/32, his best figures in T20 cricket. His previous best performances were against Guyana in 2019 CPL where he took four wickets for just 14 runs.
“It’s a great accolade and one I’m really proud of,” Green told middlesexccc.com after the game. “I didn’t know what to bowl. I spoke to Morgs and said ‘should I be greedy and go for the stumps of should I stick to what’s working?’ I decided to stick to that and got lucky.”
He went on to add that playing under skipper Morgan has helped him during the IPL. Praising him for the advice, Green said, “It’s fantastic having him out there, having played with him a bit now and played under him a couple times in the IPL and at Middlesex it is fantastic. He’s got a great head on his shoulders, a fantastic leader and one of the best in the world.”
Despite his effort, Middlesex fell short by 16 runs and Green says this was the game they should’ve won. “I feel like that was the game that got away from us. A fantastic start with the ball from us, particularly bouncing back from the game at Lord’s against Surrey. I thought the total was a respectable one, we just weren’t able to keep it together,” he concluded.
