The upcoming IPL auction has set Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes and Eion Morgan among the top expensive players of the season. The players are listed with the highest base price of INR 2 Crore that equals to about USD 298,000. The auction is scheduled to start from February 20. The other players within the 2 Cr. margin are Ishant Sharma, Angelo Mathews, Mitchell Johnson, and Pat Cummins. In the initial roster a total of 799 names of players were submitted. Of this, 160 players were from eight countries excluding Bangladesh and Pakistan. 639 players are from India, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and West Indies. 24 India players are with the base price of INR 30 Lakh.
As reported, some franchisees are not too aggressive in buying players as most of them would be retained until 2018. Per some officials, English players will find special interest in the season. The franchisees are expecting the right to match option in the season, which will allow them to buy the number of players they would release for the auction. In the process, the highest bidder win players and they must match the bid. Stokes won the highest cap for his impressive innings in the recently concluded limited format matches with India. Several teams are will to bid for the player.
The new comers in IPL are the players from England. The English player are now allowed to play in domestic tournaments like IPL after Andrew Strauss change the system being the ECB Director. The English player so far, in the tournament are Jos Butler, Sam Billings, Chris Jordan, and Eoin Morgan. Several players like Jonny Bairstow, Alex Hales, Jason Roy, Jordan and Tymal Mills induced themselves to the auction. So far, 140 players are being released from their former teams including Morgan, Ishant Sharma, and Mathews. Kyle Abbott is listed with a base price of 1.5 Cr along with Jason Holder and others.
