By lunch of the second day, England reached 385 for 8, successfully restricting India bowlers from claiming frequent wickets. The debut Knock of Haseeb Hameed was a life saver for the team reaching a decent total to challenge India. Still, R Ashwin could bring up his second 5-wicket haul of the tournament. In the morning session, India spinners wreaked considerable havoc to bring down the wicket figure to 8. Jos Buttler was upbeat with his strike, who remained unbeaten in the crease with 65 until the break.

When Buttler came to bat early in the session, the spin attacks took a dig on him. However, he managed to set his foot on the pitch and began to deliver befitting reply. His ODI attitude to the game made the deliveries revert to midwicket boundaries. He became handier with his bat propelling the spin attacks out of the park. Lastly, he also struck those ingenious deliveries from Ashwin before the break. Jack Ball, partnering with the player also seemed to settle on the pitch. The duo put up a partnership of 78 balls hauling the score to 350 plus. The player, beat the new ball to score some good runs in the overs from Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

After the lunch, Ashwin trapped Jake Ball and ended his strike at 31 runs. While, Butler was removed by Jadeja ending his knock of 76 runs. England wrapped up the inning reaching 400 after the lunch. In the inning, Ashwin and Jadeja shared all the 10 wickets between them. Ashwin had 6 wickets and Jadeja had the rest 4. The inning ended with Butler's wicket.

The score could build up a pressure on India, if Wakhande pitch show its colors. India will bat in the afternoon session and the opener batsmen should be cautious to keep a close guard at their wickets. England already faced the dangers from spinners when Ravindra Jadeja attacked Adil Rashid. The pitch seems to have grown difficult for batsmen in contrast to forecast by players like Ashwin. Ashwin previously said that batting might be easier on the second and the third day. He himself knocked down several batsmen early in the day. Ben Stokes"wicket came after a DRS debate. The series brought a rare accolade for Ashwin. Be picked up his 47th wicket of the year. The figures are highest for any Indian spinner through cricket history.
