India and England have started their first test at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. Team England has toured India back to back along with Bangladesh. The team is in India for Tests, ODIs and T20 matches expanding up to the months of December and January 2017. Five Test matches, three ODIs and 3 T20s are scheduled for the tour. In the opening test match set out today, England captain, Alastair Cook put India to field after winning the toss. Both the teams are upbeat for the matches and are in full vigor. England was victorious in their Bangladesh Tour while India notched a strong win against New Zealand lately.
Presently, India is on top of the Test ranking and is on a strong form. The team whitewashed New Zealand by 3-0 in their last campaign. On the other hand, England was the team that defeated India last in a test series back in 2012-13. Since then, India had an undefeated stretch of 13 Victories with several teams. In the last defeat by England, India lost by 2-1. For India, losing the current series would be a difficult option. To remain in the top, India must win or at least draw the series. The current test series is a breakthrough in India Test records. It was decades back when a five match test series was played in the country. The last instance was in 1986-87.
India Test Captain Virat Kohli is expecting a tough game and is "looking forward to get ahead in the first season." He said that the condition is fine as the ground is balanced for both batsmen and bowlers. The captain is planning and is trying to execute them. He said that no team can be taken lightly and especially England has been playing well. The captain brought up extra bowlers to tackle the bottom line resistance of England batsmen. Meanwhile, Cook is expecting a good return from their experience in Bangladesh. He took Kohli's team as "a good challenge." The captain is all set to play with the number one team.
Some movement is expected in the Rajkot ground and will be advantageous for England. However, the top order of the team is already taken down by India bowlers within a short time. England lost three wickets before the 35th over with the top attackers, Ashwin and Jadeja striking hard. Ashwin is currently through his strongest form and is the highest test wicket taker. The current series could bring more accolades for the bowler. India has also included Amit Mishra into the XI as a specialist spinner along with them. Ashwin could also be promoted to higher order in the batting line up. The player emerged as a dependable all-rounder for the team. England featured their youngest opener on his test debut. The 19 years old Haseeb Hameed was trapped by Ashwin halting his score to 31.
