Eion Morgan, England cricketer endorsed IPL in his own way after the latest success of Ben Stokes. The England allrounder hammered his maiden century for Rising Pune Supergiant in the previous fixture, playing as the match winner. Per Morgan, the batsman will be crucial for the upcoming Champions Trophy as a bet against spin bowlers. Morgan, who is the captain of England ODI team believes that with the rise of Stokes in IPL, England Cricket Board has no way but to change its view on the league. Stokes is the most expensive overseas player in the current IPL season. Royal Pune Supergiant auctioned him for a massive 1.7 million pound. Although, he could not breakthrough in earlier matches, his unbeaten knock of 103 off 63 was a good reply.
ECB is known for its vindictive approach towards IPL, regarding participation of its players in the tournament, especially when tournament like Natwest Blast could not still come out as a successful franchisee. However, Morgan is upright in believing the positives of IPL on English players. He termed Stokes’ performance as “absolutely incredible.” He added, the reason players participate in tournament like IPL is to produce high caliber players like that of Ben Stokes. Morgan said, participation in IPL like tournament makes players to sit in the same team as the Australian captain and an Indian Legend and outperform them.
The ODI captain is keen to rope in Ben Stokes for the upcoming Champion Trophy. He said, Ben Stokes has proved that he can compete with the best. About ODI format, the captain focused on the emerging similarities with the T20 format. Morgan praised Stokes’ performance as a confidence builder and a huge stepping step for England Cricketers. In IPL, Morgan could not display a strong performance this season. He was back to join the ODI squad. The team is now preparing to tussle against Ireland. Morgan’s top score was 26, playing alongside Kings XI Punjab this season.
