Recently, an image of Ben Stokes at airport supposedly travelling to Australia emerged in Social Media. The image erupted a debate that the all-rounder player might be on his way to join the team playing Ashes tournament in Australia. To this, England and Wales Cricket Board put forward an official statement that Stokes is not up to join the team in Australia, but to New Zealand and all for personal reasons. ECB, what-so-ever is not bearing any travel expenses and he is travelling on his own to attend some domestic occasions. The news became more rampant after England lost the first Test against Australia at Brisbane. ECB, however, outright to clarify the denial.
Ben Stokes could not be with the team for Ashes following a disciplinary breach during the Test series against West Indies. The player was seen punching someone outside a night club at Bristol. The investigation is still going on, even if police did not charge a criminal offence against the top player. Stokes was dismissed from the team as police did not clarify their stance. Recently, he was seen with his kitbag as well as luggage in Heathrow Airport, which sparked a rumor on social media of him joining the team in Australia. Stokes might participate in a domestic tournament of New Zealand during the stay in the country with his family. His parents are from Christchurch and he is associated with the Canterbury team.
The Canterbury Cricket Broad will require clearances on the player from multiple points like ECB and New Zealand Cricket. The latter’s Public Affairs Manager, Richard Boock informed that New Zealand board is yet to receive a format request from the player’s representatives regarding his discussion with Canterbury, even if they are aware of such developments. Canterbury coach, Gary Stead earlier strongly considered to play Stokes. Meanwhile, ECB director Andrew Strauss is keen to bring the player on board. He informed, ECB is waiting for the police to proceed with the decision, before acting on the player.
