South Africa is still modifying its build up for the third test against New Zealand. In the wake of the match, they dropped Duanne Oliver, the fast bowler. The test match will start from March 25 and South Africa is trying out a new bowling strategy to topple New Zealand. Olivier is a fast bowler and team selectors might be looking for an alternate option. Seamers like Kagiso Rabada, Vernon Philander and Morne Morkel are being forming the attack. Another fast bowler, Wayne Parnell is the only option for the Protease in fast bowling now. Before Olivier, Chris Morris was also dropped from the team. He was rested in the second test, played in Wellington.
South Africa is trying to boost its spin attack. Earlier in the series, Dane Piedt was included into the squad. The team is looking for spin options with an eye to the format and the type of pitch they would be facing in the upcoming match. The new player, Olivier, made his debut in January in a campaign against Sri Lanka. The match was played in Johannesburg. He was the match winner toppling down five wickets for only 57 runs. South Africa won the match in innings. But in the recent series, the players could not display a strong stance against New Zealand batsmen. This lead South Africa to change their strategy.
The next match Olivier might play is in July. South Africa is scheduled for a tour to England. If the bowler is included in the test squad, it would he his maiden test series. In the current series, the first test was drawn. The second test was won by New Zealand and the Third test will be the series decider for the hosts. South Africa must win the match to level the series. It was a three-match series and South Africa now has no chance to win it, but to draw at the best, with a victory in the third match.
