Dhawan rested from first the ODIs against Australia
Dhawan is rested from the first three match of Australia series to attend his ailing wife.


Ahead of the ODI series against India, the selection committee decided to change the team a bit. It came after Shikhar Dhawan pleaded to be dropped from the ODI series. The player returned home without playing the last ODI as well as the T20 match against Sri Lanka. The top cricketer wants a break from the schedule due to personal reasons. As updated ahead of the ODI series on September 14, responding to the request BCCI released the player from the team for the first three ODI of the series. Dhawan's wife is ill and the player is attending her. Until now, the selection committee did not select a replacement player for Dhawan. It is most likely that a player from the 16-member player will be sent it.

The first ODI will be in Chennai on September 17. The series comprise of five ODIs and three T20 International matches. Team India is bolstered with several batsmen in the top order, but Dhawan has been a kingpin in the line since his game in the Champions Trophy campaign. He scored good runs in the Champions Trophy. India's feat reaching the final fixture had a strong contribution from the batsman. In the following series against Sri Lanka, he came out as the top scorer in the team. The batsman plundered 358 playing four innings. He averaged 89.50. In the series where India dominated, Dhawan was awarded the Player of the Match.

Meanwhile, another top player of the team Rohit Sharma said that it is not easy to comeback and retain an earlier form. Sharma injured his thigh in the ODI against New Zealand following which, he rested for an extended season. His Test campaign against Sri Lanka was hefty becoming the top scorer in the three-match series. Per Sharma the difficult part is to "conquer the inner demons." He said, overcoming the fear is important and it is all in the mind.
