Deepti Sharma, who signed up with Cricket Association of Bengal is looking forward to work with Jhulan Goswami, her senior team-mate at the camp. The player got registered with the association for season 2017-18 after leaving the Uttar Pradesh side. The women striker was at the India camp for Yo-Yo Test. BCCI designed the special version of the game to ensure certain levels of fitness in players before being considered for selection. Earlier, team management rolled out the parameters to pass the fitness test. Per BCCI CEO Rahul Johri, the Board has made the procedure ‘non-negotiable.’ Johri made it clear even if players are injury-free, a failure to meet the parameters will keep them off the national team. Recently, Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina could not clear the fitness test.
Women cricketer Deepti Sharma did not find the Test “too difficult.” She opined, the focus of the camp was on fitness and fielding drills, adding it was ‘exciting’ for her. Sharma said the Test was customized for separate players based on their performance and areas of improvements. Players were handed their own customized plans for the Test. Joining the Bengal Team after the camp, Sharma is committed to improve her game. She pointed out senior player Jhulan Goswami as her mentor in the Bengal team. The young player was also in contact with the Baroda as well as the Railways Board.
Jhulan Goswami, senior player in the Women team said the Yo-Yo camp was intense and exciting. Per the cricketer, the plan is to transform player as better athletes and improvement of endurance. The camp features intense training schedules. Goswami the level of toughness will keep on increasing in each camp. The players are also provided personal diet charts as well as personalized schedules. The senior player disclosed that another camp will be held before the women team tour South Africa. The team is scheduled to visit the country in January. Thus, the next camp might be after the Domestic season starting from December.
