In the Women BBL match between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars, all-rounder Deandra Dottin suffered a concussion. The player was taken immediately to the hospital after she lost consciousness. She collided head on with Laura Harris, her team mate on the boundary. The Brisbane Heat player was fielding at the boundary near Harris. They tried to prevent a boundary from Meg Lanning over the midwicket. The players crashed into each other. The incidence was in the eleventh over bowled by Haidee Birkett.
After the accident, when the medics laid the kit bags on the field, Dottin seemed to have lost consciousness lying on the stretcher. The other player, Harris dashed into the picket fence after the collision, however, she remained at the ground to complete the match. In the previous day, another player, Holly Ferling suffered similar concussion as she struck her head into a turf. She was trying to take a catch near the boundary. The Heat player was rested for the current game.
Brisbane Heat won the match by 5 runs. Winning the Toss, the team took on the pitch first to pose 130 as the target for Melbourne Stars. In the inning, Deandra Dottin scored two runs being trapped by Hayley Jansen in the seventeenth over. However, the foundation of the score was formed by Beth Mooney, who scored a half century. Mooney scored 55 off 50 balls in the inning. Jess Jonassen scored 32 off 28 ball following the highest scorer. Smriti Mandhana remained unbeaten in the inning striking 11 runs.
In the chase, Melbourne Stars scored 124 losing the match by a narrow 5 runs. The chase was stronger in the beginning with Meg Lanning scoring a half century off 42 balls. She was dismissed in the 13th over by Haidee Birkett. Emma Inglis, the wicket keeper cum batswomen scored 41 off 39 balls before being removed by Smriti Mandhana. After the opener players were removed, the chase was slackened with the following batswomen being dismissed at paltry score.
