Delhi Daredevils’ IPL woes have become almost synonymous to a moniker like that of bottomers. Since the last five IPL seasons, the team could not finish in a better of position than sixth. The same might repeat this season as well. They are hanging at the bottom of the point chart and their fate in the current tournament depends on the next match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. If the latter win, they will qualify for the playoffs. They are the most successful team so far in the tournament.
The equation is fairly simple; if they win, they will survive for the next match, and if they loss, they would be the first team to get into knocked out row. All they have now is four games and they cannot afford to lose even one. In their last tussle, Hyderabad did not have to work hard to defeat Delhi, winning by seven wickets. The former has been on a serious winning stretch in back to back matches this IPL season.
Delhi’s prime bet in batting is Prithvi Shaw. His 36-ball-65 was a strong figure against Hyderabad. They have an array of young batsmen including Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant. When they play against Hyderabad, it turns a tussle against the world class T20 bowlers like Rashid Khan and Shakib Al Hasan. Iyer has been especially effective against Rashid Khan.
While Khan emerged as one of the fiercest bowler in the tournament, Iyer smashed 48 runs off 29 deliveries off the bowler. This is the best score against Khan by any batsmen in the IPL season so far. Iyer plays impressively against pace bowlers. His best average is strong in the department. Meanwhile, Khan has bowled 30 overs for 11 wickets so far in the tournament.
So far, the overseas batsmen of Delhi have been playing marginally. In a match, Jason Roy smashed an unbeaten 91 and it is his single mighty display so far. Maxwell picks a wicket once in a while, along with Trent Boult and Liam Plunkett.
