South Africa has opted for a new spinner in the team for their next campaign against New Zealand. Dane Piedt, the off spinner is included in the squad at the latest. The bowler will join South Africa team, which is campaigning in New Zealand shortly, following his visa confirmation. Most likely, he will join on the weekend. However, this makes the bowler unavailable for the immediate next test which is set to begin on March 16. Piedt will join in for the third test skipping the second. 27 years old Piedt debuted for his team in a 2014 match against Zimbabwe. Since his debut, he has played only seven tests. So far, he has knocked 24 test wickets.
He crashed into the test team of South Africa with a moderate strength, but the stint of about two years ended in August 2016. For South Africa selectors, Keshav Maharaj came out as more imperative than Piedt. When he was dropped from the team, the Proteas were to campaign against Australia. Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi were included in the team leaving behind Piedt.
Following the series against Australia, South Africa campaigned against Sri Lanka at home and Piedt has been left out since the former. In the ongoing series with New Zealand, South Africa has Maharaj as the only spin option. The matches are turning out to be spin favoring and it is crucial of South Africa to put a stronger impetus on spin attacks. Thus, Piedt was once again recalled in the team. He will bowl side by side of Maharaj.
Unlike other South Africa players, who ended their international career playing as a Kolpak player in domestic matches of England, Dane Piedt came back as an international player again to represent his team. Most of South Africa players included themselves in domestic circuit of England after being dropped from the international squad. For Piedt, the end did not arrive and the bowler is expected to turn up as the right bet for the team.
