South Africa Cricket announced the squad for the upcoming ODI series against Bangladesh. The series will the first for Faf du Plessis playing as a captain since AB de Villiers dropped himself from the position. Two new players in the team are Dane Paterson and Temba Bavuma, making it back. Paterson's inclusion is the result of Morne Morkel's injury, the player being rested from the series. It is the maiden ODI call for Paterson. He played T20 International matches for South Africa against England in June. The bowler had an impressive performance in the series knocking four wickets.
Along with Paterson, South Africa's attack comprise of Kagiso Rabada, Imran Tahir and Andile Phehlukwayo. On Paterson, Convener of the selection panel, Linda Zondi said the bowler is particularly very well when it comes to death bowling. The selector wants the bowler to do a similar job he did in the T20 match against England. In fact, it is a test of the bowler if he can play with same intensity in 50 overs format. Also, Wayne Parnell and Dwaine Pretorius will back up the team. The team will play without Chris Morris and Keshav Maharaj, the former being injured. In batting, AB de Villiers, David Miller, and JP Duminy will strengthen the middle order. Per the selector, the tournament will be also a preparation for the upcoming world cup.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka announced its team for the ODI series against Pakistan. As a surprise, Lasith Malinga is dropped from the team, apparently due to his low form. Also, the team does not have Angelo Mathews, one of the top striker. Mathews is rested due to injury. Sri Lanka is planning the team for the World Cup campaign. Malinga being dropped from the team, has little hopes of playing the big tournament as of now. Sri Lanka will play five ODIs against Pakistan.
