After promising that they will do their bit to support the country in the fight against COVID-19, India’s skipper Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma have started a fundraiser to help people who are suffering from COVID-19. The duo initiated this movement after the conclusion of IPL 2021, which was suspended owing to a bio-bubble breach. The couple came together and started the fundraiser on a well-known platform Ketto and also urged people to do their bit for the country.
India is recording more than 4 lakh infections of the virus daily and the death toll too, has hit an all-time high. Amidst this, the IPL 2021 took place, but was suspended after half of the teams recorded positive cases. Since the medical infrastructure is falling apart in the country, numerous celebrities have donated some money to NGOs.
Anushka Sharma shared a video on Twitter where she and Virat pledged their support towards the COVID-19 relief work. “As our country battles the second wave of Covid-19, and our healthcare systems are facing extreme challenges, it breaks my heart to see our people suffering. So, Virat and I have initiated a campaign #InThisTogether, with Ketto, to raise funds for Covid-19 relief,” she wrote in the tweet.
Along with that, Anushka also shared another video later and wrote, “This is our chance to help. To support. To extend ourselves and do our bit. So, let’s do everything we can. We are #InThisTogether.”
The fundraiser will be active for seven days on Ketto’s website and the money raised will be directed to ACT Grants, an organization which has been working towards providing oxygen, medical equipment and other facilities. Anushka and Virat have donated INR 2 crores and are targeting to raise INR 7 crore in the coming week, before directing the amount to ACT Grants.
