India are all set to clash with New Zealand in the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) Final. From the 144 years of Test cricket, there has never been a Test champion. The World Test Championship, started in 2019, is now in its final stage with India and New Zealand playing against each other in the Final, starting today.
India’s journey has been a see-saw type one, from losing the two Tests in New Zealand to winning the toughest series in Australia. New Zealand, on the other hand, have entered the final comfortably, on the back of home Test wins and despite losing the away series in Australia 0-3.
Before the all important final, there was a memorable scene in the nets as India’s skipper Virat Kohli was seen giving throwdowns to his limited-overs deputy Rohit Sharma. Also, Kohli shared his own experience with Rohit about playing the Duke ball in England.
Virat had a horrible tour in 2014 in England, and he even failed to score 100 runs across ten innings in five-Tests. However, he made a strong comeback in the 2018 series, when he scored over 500 runs, including the victory in the battle against England pacer Jimmy Anderson, who failed to dismiss Virat in the five-match Test series.
The video of training was shown on the pre-match show on Star Sports network today. In the video, Virat can be seen chatting with Rohit about playing the duke ball. He then followed it up with some throwdowns to Rohit and the two were engaged in a fruitful discussion thereafter. During the throwdowns, Kohli also gave some tips on playing specific balls.
Here’s the video:
