In an unfortunate turn of events, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have suspended pacer Ollie Robinson for his racist and sexist tweets in 2012 and 2013. Following the conclusion of the first Test against New Zealand, which ended in a draw, the ECB released a statement, confirming the reports of the suspension of Ollie Robinson from all forms of international cricket.
“England and Sussex bowler Ollie Robinson has been suspended from all international cricket pending the outcome of a disciplinary investigation following historic tweets he posted in 2012 and 2013,” ECB wrote in the statement.
“He will not be available for selection for the LV= Insurance second Test against New Zealand starting at Edgbaston on Thursday 10 June. Robinson will leave the England camp immediately and return to his county,” it concluded.
Here’s what happened over the last few days:
On his (Robinson’s) debut day, a Twitter user dug out his Robinson’s old tweets, which were racist as well as sexist and all of a sudden, the cricket world was sent on frenzy.
There were talks about his suspension on the first day itself and several fans asked for a punishment. However, there were people who stood behind him, terming the tweets as a ‘teenage mistake’. At the end of the day, the news reached England’s dressing room and Ollie Robinson issued an apology to both, the broadcasters and his teammates in the dressing room.
However, that wasn’t enough as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) launched a full investigation into the matter and thus, Robinson was suspended from International cricket after the conclusion of the first Test match. The ECB revealed that until the outcome of the ongoing investigation, the fast-bowler will not feature in any of England’s international matches.
Soon, after the news of his suspension from international cricket, the social media was united and numerous fans poured in support for the young man. Here are the best tweets:
I hope the investigation of Ollie Robinson ends early as possible, maybe it can hit the career badly as we don’t know what his mind is going through with this suspension and investigation for his old tweets. These can be new lessons in life, comeback stronger, Robinson.

Heart goes to Ollie Robinson, he made a mistake 8-9 years back & he apologized on Day 1 when this tweet went viral but believe ECB made a harsh call by suspending frm Intnl cricket till the investigation ends. I hope he takes this as a learning curve or else can affect his career

Amazing that the ECB will suspend Ollie Robinson for being an arsehat 8 years ago but will turn a blind eye to Ben Stokes breaking the cheekbone of a random punter

Incredibly harsh in my opinion to ban Ollie Robinson from all international cricket pending an investigation. Presumably this means all mistakes we all made as teenagers before we had responsibility of a professional contract counts against us all for ever more…

People are going to have different views about this. But let’s try to disagree without labelling people who think the decision was harsh as racists or throwing terms like “woke” around at people who think it was justified.

Also before punishing someone for being human, can those people put their hands over their hearts and say with conviction that they have been a paragon of virtue all their life.#OllieRobinson https://t.co/gn2k5IY87O
