Amidst all the news regarding the rescheduling of the five-match Test series between India and England, former English captain Michael Vaughan has offered a simple solution to both the cash-rich boards – England Cricket Board (ECB) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Recently, reports of the BCCI requesting the ECB to reschedule the fifth Test in Manchester for a larger window for IPL 2021 emerged and all of a sudden, cricket twitter was divided into two sides. While numerous Indian fans supported the decision of rescheduling the fifth Test, English fans were quite unhappy, especially those, who had already bought the tickets of the Manchester Test.
No official confirmation from either of the boards yet
However, there was no confirmation about this move from either of the boards. Former English captain Michael Vaughan took to Twitter, offering a simple solution to both the boards. As decided earlier, English players were meant to play ‘The Hundred’, a new tournament by the ECB, which will start in July.
Some of the marquee English cricketers had signed up to play the tournament before the Test series against India. However, with reports emerging about BCCI’s request to reschedule the series a week earlier, the fame of ‘The Hundred’ will come under jeopardy.
Michael Vaughan comes up with a solution
Vaughan opined that the first Test should be played a week earlier and the absence of marquee English players should be compensated by fringe Indian Test players. In this way, the former English captain feels that the deal would be good for cricket as well as profitable for both the boards as they can stage the IPL 2021 in a larger window.
Taking both the sides of the debate, Vaughan wrote, “Simple solution .. Play the First Indian Test a week earlier .. No England Test players would then potentially play the 100 so Fringe Indian Test players replace them .. Then the IPL can finish .. Good deal all round.”
