The National Cricket Academy, NCA, has been an ailing institution. The Bengaluru based institute was established as BCCI’s own facility for cricket training. It was established in year 2000 to train young cricketers of the country under the supervision of Raj Singh Dungarpur, former BCCI president. However, the facility has not been of such outcome even if the board tried out multiple attempts to rejuvenate it. Back in 2014, BCCI collaborated with Cricket Australia and England and Wales Cricket Board to facelift the institution. There was also an attempt to combine with MRF Pace Foundation to train fast bowler in the facility.
Recently, BCCI has started the process of an administrative overhaul of the institution. The board is hiring a new Administrative Manager. CoA is taking the initiative in coordination with CEO Rahul Johri and Dilip Vengsarkar, the current NCA Director. It is also reported that the office bearers are kept out from the process. Per an official, the CoA and the CEO are taking to several potential candidates for the post, but nothing is finalized yet. The post of director might also be sacked as the new appointment is made.
Previously, the NCA was overseen by a committee comprising of BCCI office bearers. But since CoA dissolved the high positions of the board, none was on the helm of the academy. The Board has also not rolled out any advertisement for the appointment. Several prominent cricket personalities of the nation were appointed for the director’s chair including Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Ravi Shastri and Anil Kumble. The administration of the academy went through several criticisms and controversies before in different occasions.
National Cricket Academy, however, is successful to produce some of the best cricket talents of the nation. Top Players like Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Cheteshwar Pujara are all products of the institution.
