Team is will soon have a revised pay scale. The annual contract of last year expired before two months and the players are now looking forward for a better play scale. Together with coach Ravi Shastri, captain Virat Kohli and former captain MS Dhoni had a meeting with the Committee of Administrators, regarding renewed salary packages.
The CoA is reported to have accepted the demand of better payment. The exact figures of the new payment model are not public until now, but it is higher than the previous packages. For the year 2016-17, the salary package for Grade A players was 2 Crores, while Grade B and C player were offered INR 1 Crore annually. Apart from regular monthly payments, players were paid 15 Lakhs for a Test. The amount was 6 Lakh for an ODI and 3 Lakhs for a T20 International.
Earlier in May 2017, former coach Anil Kumble suggested a remuneration of INR 5 Crores for Grade A players. The demand of better payment came as players are being scheduled for tighter fixtures without adequate gaps between the matches for rest. BCCI also worked on a Future Tour Program which would fix the schedules for players in upcoming years. The schedules of top Indian cricketers were turning more stringent. Against this backdrop, a higher pay grade of cricketers is being accepted. Vinod Rai, said the compensation package is being agreed and now it is “only a question of numbers.”
The meeting with players had BCCI CEO Rahul Johri and Diana Edulji on board. Rai was satisfied with the response of players. The Chairman acknowledged that it is “first time someone is having a dialogue”, with the Administrators. He said that FTP will be designed such that players get enough rest in between their tours. Also, he disclosed that players are satisfied with the new FTP.
